Funding

Funding for prosthetics and orthotics

Most prostheses and orthoses are funded, at least in part. Here is how the main pathways work, and how we help with the paperwork.

Maegan calls you back personally, usually within one business day.

We prepare

  • Assistive technology (AT) assessments for the NDIS
  • Itemised quotes for your plan manager, insurer or funder
  • Progress and review reports
  • Letters and reports for DVA, WorkCover, NIISQ and CTP insurers

NDIS

If you are an NDIS participant with a self-managed or plan-managed budget, you can use Align. We provide the AT assessment, quote and reports your plan needs and work with your plan manager and support coordinator.

We cannot be paid from agency-managed (NDIA-managed) funds. If your plan is agency-managed, you can ask your planner about changing how your assistive technology budget is managed.

DVA

If you are a veteran, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs may fund your prosthesis or orthosis. We will check what referral or approval DVA needs before we start.

WorkCover

If your injury happened at work, your workers’ compensation insurer may fund your device and appointments once your claim is accepted. We send them the assessment and quote they need for approval.

NIISQ and CTP

If you were injured in a motor vehicle accident in Queensland, the National Injury Insurance Scheme Queensland (NIISQ) or a compulsory third party (CTP) insurer may fund your device and appointments. We send them the assessment and quote they need for approval.

Private health insurance

Some extras policies pay a partial rebate on prostheses or orthoses. It varies between funds and levels of cover, so check with your insurer using the itemised quote we give you.

Self-funded

You can pay privately. You will get an itemised quote before anything is made, so there are no surprises.

About Maegan and Align

Frequently asked questions

Can I use Align if my NDIS plan is agency-managed?+
Not directly, because agency-managed funds can only be paid to NDIS-registered providers. You can ask your planner about changing how your assistive technology budget is managed, to plan-managed or self-managed.
What do I need for an NDIS quote?+
Your NDIS number, your plan manager’s details if you have one, and your goals. If you have recent therapy reports, bring those too.
Does private health cover a prosthetic leg?+
Some funds pay a partial rebate on prostheses under extras cover. It varies a lot, so ask your fund with the itemised quote we give you.
Can you help if I am not sure which funding applies to me?+
Yes. Call and tell us your situation. We will explain which pathway is likely to apply and what we need from you.
