Media Consent

About This Consent

From time to time, Align Prosthetics may wish to use photographs, videos, audio recordings or written stories that feature our clients to help others understand our services and the prosthetic and orthotic journey. This page explains what we are asking when you agree to media consent, how we may use that content, and your rights to change your mind.

Giving media consent is entirely optional and is separate from your consent to receive care and services. Choosing not to consent — or later withdrawing your consent — will never affect the care, services or support you receive from us.

We handle all media that identifies you as personal and health information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. Please read this page alongside our Privacy Policy.

What We Mean by “Media”

Media may include any content in which you can be identified, such as:

  • photographs of you, including images of your prosthesis or orthosis
  • video or audio recordings featuring you or your voice
  • your first name, or a story or quote describing your experience with us

How We May Use Your Media

With your consent, we may use your media across some or all of the following:

  • our website, including resource articles and client stories
  • our social media channels (for example, Instagram and Facebook)
  • printed materials such as brochures, posters and displays
  • presentations, education and community awareness activities

We will always aim to present you respectfully and accurately. We focus on your experience and the support we provide, rather than making claims about clinical results. We will not receive payment for, or sell, your media, and you will not be paid for taking part.

Important Things to Understand

Before you consent, please consider the following:

  • once content is published online, it may be viewed, copied, shared or screenshotted by others, and it cannot always be fully removed from the internet
  • content may remain in circulation even after you withdraw consent, where it is outside our control (for example, where someone else has already saved or reshared it)
  • we cannot control how third parties use content once it has been made public

Your Choices and Withdrawing Consent

You can withdraw your consent at any time by contacting us using the details below. You do not need to give a reason.

When you withdraw consent:

  • we will stop using your media in any new materials
  • we will take reasonable steps to remove it from material we control, such as our website and our own social media accounts
  • we may be unable to recover or remove copies that others have already saved, shared or republished

Consent for Children and People We Support

Where a client is under 18 years of age, or is a person who may need support to make this decision, consent should be given by a parent, guardian, nominee or person legally authorised to make the decision on their behalf. We will always seek to involve the client in the decision as far as they are able, and we will respect a client's wish not to take part even where a representative has consented.

How We Store and Protect Media

We store media securely and limit access to authorised staff only, consistent with the safeguards described in our Privacy Policy. We retain media only for as long as it is needed for the purposes you have consented to, and we will securely dispose of it when it is no longer required or when you withdraw your consent.
